DELMAR REFORMED CHURCH
Rev. Chris Vande Bunte began his service at the Delmar Reformed Church in May of 2017. His passions for mission engagement inside and outside the doors of the church and sharing in ministry with all age groups reflect the values of the DRC family. His core understanding of ministry is expressed in engagement and interaction in community with others in simple and grander ways. It is in these communal interactions where he finds the Spirit at work, growing God’s kingdom and deepening our faith and practice of it.
Pastor Chris grew up in the town of Freehold, New Jersey, with his brother Tim. His father, Ron, is a retired RCA pastor and mother Eileen, a retired Health Care Administrator. Over the years, his family has grown to include a stepmother, Norma and two stepbrothers, Marcus and Jonas. He graduated from Hope College, Holland, MI, with a B.A. in Political Science. Before attending and graduating from New Brunswick Theological Seminary in 2005, Pastor Chris worked as a Social Worker in a residential psychiatric facility on the south side of Chicago.
Pastor Chris was married to his wife Ellen in 2006 and became part of another great family in the process! In May 2013 their family and the church family welcomed a new addition, their son Luke. Chris and Ellen enjoy many hobbies including: travel, visiting the local library, bird watching, sports (especially Orioles baseball), playing games and reading. Ellen is also an avid quilter. Both are passionate about serving and fellowship with the congregation and are glad to be a part of the DRC church family.
Prior to beginning his time at DRC, Pastor Chris served as a solo Pastor of the First Reformed Church of Hawthorne, NJ, and as the Associate Pastor of the Colts Neck Reformed Church in Colts Neck, NJ, with areas of responsibility including: Christian Education, Mission, and Youth Ministries. He has also served as a student in Hillsborough, NJ, and Kalamazoo, MI. His passion for ministry and mission have led to serving in different capacities with mission organizations and ministries focused on local, regional, and international outreach. In addition, he’s enjoyed leading many adult, multi–generational and youth mission trips nationally and internationally.

Pastor Marcy Rudins comes to us originally from Glen Ellyn, IL, where her parents Mark (a manager at a country club) and Tina (who works for an investment company) still reside. She is an only child who grew up in the Lutheran (ELCA) tradition. Early in her church life, Pastor Marcy attended a more contemplative service which instilled in her an appreciation and love of still and quiet moments in worship and life in general. These services often included time of silence and meditative prayer. She attended Hope College in Holland, MI, where she studied Communications with an emphasis on Interpersonal Communications and Marketing.
During her time at Hope, a college affiliated with the RCA, Pastor Marcy attended an RCA church and became familiar with the denomination. Upon graduation, she started looking for work and in seeking a career direction, surveyed peers and mentors about what gifts they saw in her. As gifts for ministry were identified, revealed, and affirmed by more and more people around her, Pastor Marcy began to consider going to seminary. Realizing that this was where she was called to continue her studies, she turned down a job in marketing to attend Western Theological Seminary. Pastor Marcy graduated in the spring and was ordained October 1st by the Classis of Holland.
As she arrives at DRC, we are excited to help her develop and explore her many passions in ministry, including interest in becoming a Certified Spiritual Director in the future. Pastor Marcy brings specific gifts in this area which are often used in leading retreats and in one-on-one spiritual direction and counseling. At DRC, she looks forward to getting to know the congregation, where people are, and how to support them. As she puts it, “In order to minister to people, you have to first know who they are.” Outside of the office, Pastor Marcy enjoys kayaking, cooking, baking, and is a published author who enjoys writing and poetry. Though she is not a sports nut, she enjoys going to various games and is a Chicago Cubs baseball fan by blood. We look forward to welcoming her as she officially begins on October 10.
